Setting a New Female Ideal: Fit Instead of Fat or Thin

"While I am happy that there is a bit of diversity in the shapeliness of our leading Hollywood women, I cannot help but be surprised that we are now going from one side of the "weight obsessed" spectrum to another. What's troubling is that we're still focusing on the scale at all. Where is the discussion of health and fitness in all of this? Isn't it time for the "ideal female figure" to be the epitome of physically fit and healthy?......The focus of beauty needs to shift to accommodate health and, until media portrayals begin to shift in the same ways, it's hard to believe that anything will change on the front of eating disorders, self-esteem, self-confidence and weight-related health concerns for all genders of all ages."

  1. I agree with this blog because too many girls are starving themselves to be really thin. All they have to do to look great is to be physically active! When you starve yourself, you may look okay for a while, but your immune system could get weaker and you could get really sick. You are able to do more things when you are physically fit!

  2. I agree that celebrities are setting unrealistic goals for young girls and their idea of "ideal" body types. Too many young girls believe that the only way to be "pretty" or have a nice body is to not eat. But personally I believe that women who are fit have nicer bodies then women who are skinny because they don't eat. If girls worked out more not only would they have fitter bodies but they'd also feel better about themselves and gain self confidence.

This blog post is spot on! I agree with everything said. Celebrities now of days are influencing too many kids to be skinny which causes self shame and hate towards your body image! Teenagers get the idea that it's good to starve yourself for a body image that is like a celebrity. This is just not the case and just plain stupidity! Celebrities have the money to change their body which regular people just can't do, end of story. Persuasion is key for the celebrities to get innocent teen to follow what they do which gets taking out of proportion and leads to problems... in this case, they are not satisfied with their body and they starve them self. Teens who workout more have a better chance to get the result they want rather than starving them-self for a better body image.
